Key facts
- The announcement concerns EEA availability on Kraken Pro.
- Cross margin can expose eligible holdings across the account.
- Some products remain outside the shared wallet.
What Kraken announced
Kraken said on October 16 that Unified Wallet is available to clients in the European Economic Area. Eligible spot, margin, Earn and futures balances can support futures trades without an internal transfer first. The exchange describes support for more than 40 cryptocurrencies, alongside USD, EUR and gold represented as XAU.
This changes collateral management rather than removing the risks of derivatives. Kraken says asset-specific valuation ratios determine how much margin each holding contributes, and those ratios can change with market conditions.
The account boundary matters
Kraken's supporting documentation distinguishes shared collateral from isolated positions. Cross margin uses eligible account value, including unrealised profits, across positions. Isolated margin remains available for Multi-M contracts. Inverse futures and US futures retain separate wallets.
Returning to separate wallets requires closing derivatives positions and orders. The support page says balances are not automatically transferred back afterwards. For an existing holder, the practical question is which assets become available to absorb trading losses. Read the account settings and collateral rules before enabling the feature; availability alone does not establish suitability.
