Key facts

  • The announcement concerns the Sepolia test network.
  • Both execution and consensus clients require compatible releases.
  • Hoodi and mainnet dates remain blank in the reviewed specification.

The published testnet schedule

The Ethereum Foundation published its Glamsterdam testnet announcement on September 28. It scheduled Sepolia activation for October 6 and instructed operators to update both halves of their node software. This report covers that published plan; the announcement alone does not verify the subsequent activation outcome.

The Foundation identifies two central changes: bringing proposer-builder separation into the protocol and adding block-level access lists. These are intended to support higher execution capacity by changing block production and the information clients use for validation.

What the specification includes

The official upgrade tracker, EIP-7773, also lists revised accounting for state creation and access, ETH transfer logs, a higher contract-size limit and changes to validator exit and consolidation churn. Its Sepolia activation entry matches the announcement, while the Hoodi and mainnet rows are unfilled.

That distinction is relevant when reading claims about cheaper transactions or immediate mainnet capacity. A testnet schedule is a development milestone, not evidence of a particular user fee or investment return. Developers can use the named specification to identify affected assumptions and test their applications. ETH holders should use a separate mainnet announcement to establish any future production activation date.
