Key facts
- The SEC issued eleven related notifications.
- Funds must follow a passive single-asset strategy.
- Exchange listing and custody safeguards apply.
The framework
Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission announced rules for domestic crypto exchange-traded funds, fund-management delegation and eligible fund supervisors. Crypto ETFs must maintain average net exposure of at least 80% of net asset value to a single cryptoasset over each accounting year.
The framework requires listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand and custody through regulated digital-asset custodians. Securities firms may not provide margin loans to buy these ETFs.
Rules versus a product launch
The announcement describes a regulatory framework, including investor education and risk acknowledgement. It does not name a newly launched fund or report investor inflows. Approval of the framework should therefore be distinguished from the separate establishment and trading of a particular ETF.
